The Border Violence Unit (BVU) of the Office of the Attorney General is a unit specializing in international extraditions and prosecutions of human trafficking and money laundering cases throughout the State. Using a multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional approach, the BVU strives to educate and foster cooperation and mutual support among the network of legal, law enforcement, and social service agencies that serve as our collaborative partners. The BVU provides investigative support and training to all New Mexico law enforcement agencies. The OAG drafted New Mexico’s human trafficking statute and has taken the lead role in training law enforcement, promoting awareness, and prosecuting New Mexico’s first human trafficking cases. The BVU provides awareness through training and media campaigns as well as through participation in anti-human trafficking work groups.

The Office of the Attorney General also formed New Mexico's Anti-Money Laundering Alliance to address money laundering throughout New Mexico. The Office of the Attorney General receives grant funding through the Southwest Anti-Money Laundering Alliance (SWBAMLA) for a specialized money laundering team, which includes prosecutors in BVU working with the OAG Anti-Money Laundering Unit within the Special Investigations Division.
